About

Subplate Records was set up in 2002 as an output for the array of vintage synths that the Sleepless Crew collected from basements n clear outs, not to mention the odd hard bargin. As the sound is predominantly analogue and 808 driven, the basis of the label was to be electro. But as sounds morphed with a healthy mix of influence, intrigue and endeavor the label has developed into an experimental club label, falling of the edge of electro, dancehall, disco, dub, acid house, hip house, hip hop, booty and so on.

As the Glasgow Club scene tries mercilessly to structure it’s own sound away from the 90’s techno and house boom, Subplate Records have been instrumental in developing this shift into experimental dance music along with labels such as Stuff Records, Point. One Recordings and Rottenrow Records.
