The fifth report from the Subplate cannon and its four full force party-bangers of analogue future-tronics. A quaking quartet of road tested tracks that can’t fail to storm any set from house party to highland mega rave.

Starting with Cold Rock – a mutant hip hop jam, ripping some hard hitting attitude from the forgotten vaults of a certain female rap artist and matching them with a booming break, stuttered edits and a melody hook like Dr Dre never got rich.

Red Shoes fires in with a four four UK-garage stomp, razor sharp percussion slices a bass line punchier than a barrel full of madman brew wrapped up in a Scooby Doo horror chime to chill your bones and march your Fila’s.

Flip disc for the trademark dancehall electro jack – precision structure and solid Smith n Hack jump edits anchor a sassy analogue squelch that will put the green eyes on anyone from Dexter to Raiders of The Lost Arp. Platinum attitude with effortless flow.

The title track, Voodootronics raises the Subplate standard high into the half-step, ragga-electro galaxy. The melodics could be Ersatz, the groove 1982 Console, the bootleg vocal is pure renegade Kingston: the combination however is vintage Sleepless Crew. A track to make you read your rave scriptures and praise your maker. Fire & Brimstone!

Have you ever come across something that appears completely familiar yet is actually the freshest egg in the box? Well The Acid Dancehall EP does exactly this. Hand crafted from only the finest and most vintage of crumbling bakerlite and copper circuitry, you know from the diamond tip’s first taste of the groove that these boys studio is the shit. This is crafted, the sound is drip raw - no oil slick production - just a cool confidence that makes you jack.

Electrick growls along with the analogue low end bubbling and flooding under shattered off step electro. The percussive syncopation is intuitive but not ‘clever’ and the cracked melodics seep from a groove that quakes. The vibe is true Final Frontier yet the style is fresh.

Three Hundred and Three is scraping the track title barrel but once heard it kind of makes sense: jilted steppa rhythm, slowed down and twisted with a squelching acid hook. The snares and kicks drop heavy like bricks and the trademark raw production bleeds bass.

Loose whiplash snares and stuttered bass drops on 2DJs makes it an instant mover. It is pedigree electro-bass, eerily slow and with ghostly melodies that compliment the swamp bass. If any one knows and likes Selway’s Seretonin production, this is the next level.

The title track joins Acid Dancehall with the Sleepless Crew ’s custom ragga-stomp beats and snares, underpinned with gunshot rasps and a brooding lurk of a bass line that is as infectious as it is menacing.

The cut is loud and suitably so for the Sleepless Crew ’s most intimidating work yet. Four tracks that have upfront rave qualities but grow deeper with each listen.

From the seething, slippery swill of beer, piss and fag butts at Glasgow’s underbelly has arisen the ugly head of Gist. Once an accomplished classical musician, Gist has ditched all that shit for the heights and depths of the fast lane. And from the sound of this record he has seen them. The man is a born rock star with a flawed charm and a vocal grit that is genuine ‘dark caberet’. At the controls stand two maverick scally’s of Scotland’s electro breaks scene: Sleepless Crew who have recently been attracting attention from all quarters not least from the charts of Mssr Weatherall.

Flip this brass disc and you will be forgiven for thinking Dopplereffekt have been resurrected: Dirty Blonde Mix from Sleepless Crew sports jittery bass bubbles and metallic snare splash, a loose b-boy flair that will keep all you electro commando’s happy until we all get our brain’s chipped. The Subplate massive keep best til last with Vibrator Love Mix, a deadly electro-step track grinds along, decimating bowels with some kind of evil bionic bass charge and unsteady sonar bleeps. Fierce, brash with a tactile sound that you feel in your heart. And your pants. Hear this in your local Friday night booze-hole or else get yourself a clean copy from down the shops, its nasty.

BOMBER AHOY!!!!! High tensile electro-bass-tech-break from Glasgee. The quality is impeccable, big brash production values that scream “bass destroyers”. Track one is pounding breaks electro groove, huge sub-bass response and screaming whines bring the panic. Track two is much more on the electro disco tip, sounding very Vitalic in arpeggiated style, but whith clattering snares and warm humming bass. Rock yo disco tek!! Third track jacks up the ole’ rave horn, erratic kick and snares with a rough ass bass grind that Radioactive Man would glow to. TIP. Ruffneck dancehall style fires up last, female ragga vocal toasts on top a stunted riddim and insistant, acid line that weaves through your head like a virus.
